On Saturday, 17th of October 2020, H.E. Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of South Sudan and an accompanying delegation visited to the National Water Research Center (NWRC) Campus, at the Delta Barrages, upon an invitation sent from H.E. Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation (MWRI) of Egypt alongside the activities of the Third Cairo Water Week 2020 that is taking place during the period of 18 – 22 October 2020, where Prof. Khaled Abdel Hay (President of the NWRC), NWRC Vice-President, and NWRC’s Institutes’ Directors and Units welcomed the delegation. Following the welcome speech given by NWRC's President, a video on the most important research and applied activities carried out by the institutes and research units under the umbrella of the NWRC was presented. This was followed by a tour at the campus where the delegation visited the physical model of the Dairout Barrages established at the experimental hall of the Hydraulics Research Institute (HRI), where HRI Director gave a brief presentation on the activities undertaken by the institute and the ongoing studies and researches conducted on Dairout Barrages within the context of optimal water resources management. Later, the delegation visited the Central Laboratory for Environmental Quality Monitoring (CLEQM) where CLEQM Director and other heads of departments presented the state-of-the-art devices and equipment used in biological and chemical analysis for water, soil and plant quality. The visit was finalized by reviewing the pilot experimental area of the Water Management Research Institute (WMRI), where WMRI Director also reviewed the field research carried out by WMRI to compare traditional irrigation systems with modern irrigation systems, which consists of irrigation using pipes, spray irrigation, drip irrigation and undersurface irrigation.
