Channel Maintenance Research Institute
Overview
The Channel Maintenance Research Institute (CMRI) is one of the 12 institutes affiliated with the National Water Research Center (NWRC) under the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation (MWRI). Established in 1975, CMRI specializes in providing practical and scientific solutions for the design, rehabilitation, and maintenance of open water channels, as well as the management of aquatic weeds. It is a pioneer in biological weed control using grass carp and a national leader in waterway maintenance.

Vision
To be a leading research institute in the field of open channel maintenance and aquatic weed management, supporting the sustainable use and protection of water resources through applied scientific research
Mission
To develop and provide effective scientific and technical solutions to challenges in open water channel design, maintenance, and aquatic weed control. CMRI supports MWRI strategies by conducting applied research, field studies, and capacity-building initiatives aimed at improving water efficiency and quality.
