Complementary Study for Environmental Impact Assessment Upstream and Downstream New Naga Hammadi Barrage
Project Date: 2021-06-03

Description:
Naga Hammadi Barrage was constructed on the Nile River during 1927-1930. It is located at 12th km from North of Naga Hammadi city. The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation (MWRI) planned to construct a New Barrage to replace the existing old one in order to ensure the continuation of water supply to large areas downstream it. It is also proposed that the New Barrage incorporated with a hydropower plant utilizing water level difference to generate electricity. The New Barrage is located at 3.50 km downstream of the old one. The project aims to counter the negative effects that may arise during the operation of the new Naga Hammadi barrages as a result of the movement and speed of the current water and the accumulation of living and non-living organisms upstream the new barrages
